EFFSC to protest against Unisa’s ‘bad faith’

There will be a resumption of protests at the University of South Africa on Tuesday after a number of organisations accused management of “negotiating the process of insourcing in bad faith”.

A statement issued by the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command’s Neoza Hlabirwa and Ntando Sindane‚ and claiming to speak on behalf “workers of Unisa and the Academic and Professional Staff Association‚ said they “are left with no choice but to go back to streets”.

They cited a security company “which has been dismissing workers every since insourcing negotiations started” as one example of the bad faith negotiations.

The company had‚ the pair claimed‚ refused to “respect a Unisa Council resolution that no worker who was actively involved in strike action should be victimised”.

“Management went further to demonstrate bad faith by flatly refusing to absorb the dismissed security employees‚” they said.

Hlabirwa and Ntando Sindane also said “other institutions of higher learning are way ahead of Unisa with regard to implementation of insourcing”‚ and said they had “reason to believe that there are members of Unisa management who are improperly and unduly benefiting from exploitation of workers”.

They also said the workers’ tabled demands for “study benefits for their children” was denied.
