Afro-soul singer Dumza Maswana will be sharing his latest offering with the people of Ingqushwa local municipality this weekend at the Hamburg Splash Festival.

The event will be hosted by actors Dumisani Mbebe, formerly of Rhythm City, and Mpumelo Bhulose, known as Gxabashe from the SABC1 drama series Uzalo.

The festival will take place at the Hamburg beachfront.

Other activities for the two-day event include beach soccer, volley ball, aerobics and a kiddies corner, which will have a jumping castle and face painting.

The aim of the festival is to promote Hamburg as a tourism destination as well as celebrate the start of the festive season.

Other artists expected to keep visitors entertained at the free event include DJ Jigga WaseMdantsane, DJ Ligwa, DJ Slim, Mjazz, Brubhar, Lord Harmony, Qalazive and DJ Bongs.

Maswana, who recently released his second album titled Molo, said he could not wait to share his new music with the people of Ngqushwa: “This will be like a launch for me because they have not heard this new album yet.”

Maswana released his first album Iphupha Lam in 2010 and has been based in Johannesburg, where he has been working hard to make his second album a reality.

He launched it in East London last month in partnership with trufm, which saw the singer perform with his full band of Siyasanga Dikana on keyboards, Luyanda Madope on piano, Sinikwe “Snikzo” Mabaso on drums, Shozz Shoko on bass, Msindisi Mgculo on guitar and Kananelo Leeuw, MbuSoul Fata and Sipho Mhlanga on vocals.

Maswana said copies of the new album would be available on the day of the festival.

“The first single is Nomthandazo but now radio stations have been selecting their favourites, I haven’t selected which song will be the second single.

“There is a song I did with Mamu Suthukazi titled Sombawo – I heard it playing on Umhlobo Wenene FM the other day and Radio 2000 played Emihle.

“It is interesting to see how they are playing different songs from the album and supporting my music,” he said.

Mbebe said he was looking forward to coming back to his home province to be a part of the festival.

“It has been a long year. One has been working hard and it’s always great knowing that at the end of the year you will go home and relax with your people,” he said.

Mbebe said he was also looking forward to spending some time with his family.

“Hopefully the festival will be my last gig before I go to Ngqamakwe to relax with my family. People must come out in their numbers to have fun,” he said. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
