The event, hosted by TV personality Bonang Matheba, will feature Riky Rick, Sjava, Sho Madjodzi, Ms Cosmo, Shane Eagle, among other national artists.

The annual festival, brainchild of LeXhosaNostra and Chase Apparel, spearheaded by TP Pillay, was first held in 2013 when fewer than 1500 people attended, but has since grown to attract more than 2000 people in 2014 to 7000 in 2016.

Event co-ordinator Sfiso Mthethwa said this year the event aimed to provide quality over quantity.

“As one of the pioneering music festivals in East London, we were the first to bring a cashless system to our event. This means that throughout the entire event there’ll be no cash, just the safe and efficient Howler system which worked brilliantly last year. ”

The Howler system allows users to load funds onto a card and use this, instead of cash, to buy food or drink at an event. It saves event-goers from having to worry about wallets as well as drink and food service stations from having to deal with taking cash and giving out change.

“This year we have set up a website to allow people to book flights, accommodation and tickets to the event, reserve tables for the day and get a map of the event and other necessary information.

“The food factor is also something we’re looking to bring more to the fore, so that element has also grown. We’ll source locally-made cuisine and hope the revellers will get to the event early enough to experience that.

“We want to create a comfortable atmosphere and have restricted ticket numbers to 6000,” he said.

Mthethwa said they were also running a competition for one local artist to share the stage with national artists.

“#ChaseTheDream. Search for it on Facebook. The plan is to have a local artist share the stage with these national acts and eventually move to have the event be a celebration of both local and national acts. ”

Tickets are available from R250 for general and VIP at R550 from Computicket. —
