After a two year battle‚ actor Tumisho Masha was acquitted of assault charges laid against him by his estranged wife‚ Zozibini Mtongana‚ in the Randburg Magistrates Court last week.

The charges were initially laid against Tumisho in September 2016 but was later withdrawn. Then more than a year later‚ the charges were reinstated by the National Prosecuting Authority in October last year.

Zozibini claimed that Tumisho assaulted her during an altercation that turned violent between them.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindile Louw confirmed that Tumisho was acquitted of assault in the Randburg Magistrates Court last Thursday but was found guilty of malicious damage to property.

Tumisho told TshisaLIVE that he was “incredibly happy” to be able to put the situation behind him.

“I’m obviously very happy. I’ve always maintained my innocence and those close to me‚ who know me and love me‚ always knew that one day I would be exonerated.”

The actor said it has been a long road and that being called a “woman basher” in the media was not the way he wants to be remembered.

Tumisho said he was not proud of damaging someone’s property because that is no way to behave.

“I am very sorry about that. I think as men we need to hold ourselves to the highest possible standards. We have become an angry society and men should remember that there is an option to walk away.”

Tumisho added that looking back that’s what he should have done and it is a lesson he has learnt.

“Men should also remember to be honest because at the end of the day the truth is all that you have.”

Taking to Instagram‚ the actor also thanked his girlfriend‚ Chantal Wagner for her support.
