The official funeral programme began just after 9am following the arrival of struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s coffin inside the stadium.

The family moved ahead of the coffin‚ which made its way to the stadium at 9:02am‚ accompanied by South African National Defence Force members and bishops.

The crowds chanted “Winnie” and “ANC” as they saw her coffin arriving inside the stadium.

The crowd rose for the arrival of her family and President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa then greeted Congo president Denis Sassou Nguesso‚ Namibian President Hage Geingob and Graca Machel‚ widow of former president Nelson Mandela‚ before the official programme began with the singing of the national anthem.

Former president Jacob Zuma was sitting in the VIP section where another former president‚ Thabo Mbeki‚ was also seated.
