EFF MPLs kicked out of Sopa

TWO EFF MPLs were left-red faced this morning when they were kicked out of legislature chambers for wearing their trademark red overalls.

Economic Freedom Fighters’ Siyabulele Peter and the party’s legislature leader Themba Wele were already seated inside the chamber where premier c was delivering his state of the province address. As they were making themselves comfortable, the two MPLs were approached by the house’s sergeant in arms Thembekile Mzantsi who ordered them outside, saying they were dressed inappropriately. The two were wearing EFF’s trademark red overalls, miner helmets and black gumboots, similar to those worn by their members serving in the National Assembly. Their national assembly counterparts wore their regalia during the opening of parliament last month and later in subsequent house sittings. An agitated Wele said their dismissal was a sign that the ANC-led government was intolerant of the marginalised and those representing the poor. Wele added that they will challenge their removal and that they will continue wearing their regalia, “to highlight the plight of the poor and to show that the marginalised are represented in this house, even if it means that we are permanently removed from the legislature”. Their removal was unconstitutional and a sign that their presence in the legislature “was touching those in power in wrong places”, said Wele.
