Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, Johannesburg, was flooded with red T-shirts as a few thousand EFF members prepared to march to Sandton on Tuesday.

The square was almost full as the crowd waited for more buses to arrive.

EFF spokesperson and MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi addressed the crowd from the back of the truck, saying the march was about to start. He also led them in song.

Ndlozi asked the crowd to move away from the trucks where free T-shirts were being handed out. He said there were no more T-shirts because more people had joined the march than expected.

The crowd were expected to march to the SA Reserve Bank, before moving on to the Chamber of Mines and lastly the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) in Sandton.

Ndlozi said EFF leader Julius Malema was already in Sandton.

EFF Limpopo secretary Jossey Buthane also told the crowd: "Today we must go to the people that kill us day in and day out".

"We are proud of the students of 2015 ... teargas and bullets... never conceded."

Prominent EFF member Advocate Dali Mpofu was also in the square.
