A case of animal cruelty has been opened at the Kidds Beach police station after a pet dog called Misty was found suspended from its owners' front fence post with its throat slit and its stomach slashed open.

The horrified Petzer family who live on a small holding in Christmas Rock have alleged their Siberan Husky-cross Misty was killed by their neighbour Russell Webber who farms goats nearby.

Webber has admitted to killing the dog, but alleged he killed it "humanely" and was within his rights to do so after he found it mauling his goats last Friday morning.
