Parkside pupils ecstatic over jungle gym

Parkside Primary School pupils were ecstatic  when they learned about a new addition to their school’s playground – a jungle gym.

“I can’t wait to play on it with my friends.”, said Grade 1 pupil Tyler, who was too excited to engage DispatchLIVE any further.

The brand new wooden jungle gym – fully equipped with a slide, rope bridge and five tyre swings – was  donated by an Eastern Cape-based charity organisation known as Ukuthemba,  in conjunction with the AVIS Van Rental.

A Grade 1 class teacher, Ms Timothy, was  responsible for organising the donation for her school.

“My daughter is an employee at AVIS car rental here in East London, and when I heard about their community initiatives, I suggested Parkside Primary School as a possible recipient”, said Timothy. Louis Du Toit, provincial manager of AVIS Van Rental in the Eastern Cape, said: “I am very pleased with this project and work we are doing in the province.”  Ukuthemba relies mostly on fundraising and donations for their work.

AVIS is mostly work with underprivileged communities in Port Elizabeth, but decided to bring the initiative to East London making Parkside Primary one of the first beneficiaries in the BCM region. The new jungle gym was unveiled on Friday, and the Foundation Phase pupils, who previously had no facilities to play on, were over the moon.
