Mike-E-Lu hits the web funny bone with videos

SOFTWARE developer by day and funny guy video maker after hours, Michael Lu, known by many as Mike- E-Lu, hopes to take the edge off the sometimes doom and gloom world we live in with humorous YouTube videos.

It all started during Lu’s student days at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University NMMU when he and a few house mates created a video of a fight scene which he then uploaded to YouTube.

Encouraged by the positive response from viewers and those around him, Lu continued his endeavours to use the most random and sometimes real-life experiences to get a laugh.

“I enjoy entertaining people, telling stories and making people laugh.

“Many of my ideas come from everyday life. I admit, making the videos can be a bit nerve-wracking sometimes but luckily I do have a good sense of humour, or I hope I do. I’m just a guy doing what I love, I’m not trying to fit into anyone else’s mould,” he said.

Not limited to anything specific, Lu’s YouTube channel, called Out My Head Creations, ranges from comedy sketches to music videos, cover videos and even funny “how to” videos.

Although IT is his full-time career, Lu said creating videos was his hobby and something he did with a pas sion.

From a young age he has enjoyed draw ing comic strips, and since then he has just changed mediums.

“I do this as a hobby; I didn’t study it, I just love doing it and enjoy seeing the ideas come to life,” he said.

“Ideally I would love to wake up in the morning and make videos and collaborate with other people on YouTube, but then it becomes a job and you lose your passion and en joyment. It would be ideal if I got paid for what I do but right now I’m just enjoying it as a hobby.”

Lu added that he would like to collaborate with the likes of local YouTube big names including Kobus Potgieter and Derick Watts  as well as other international names.

Although he uses his hobby as a source of enjoyment and bringing his friends along to star in some of his videos, Lu said one of his aims was to use his videos to boost musicians, stars or actors willing to work with him.

“I’m not expecting to make it big or anything, I just want to show more people what I do and hopefully they will enjoy it,” he said.

“I also want to collaborate with bands and artists who aren’t that well known and want to use my channel as a platform.”
