Film will appeal to black audience

The official trailer for upcoming local romantic comedy Mrs Right Guy has been released‚ in preparation for the movie hitting cinemas on May 27.

A star-studded cast including leading lady Dineo Moeketsi‚ Thapelo Mokoena‚ Thando Thabethe‚ Lehasa Moloi‚ Tau Maserumule and Boity Thulo come together to tell the tale of a woman once bitten by love‚ who unintentionally ventures on the road to true love once again.

Nigerian filmmaker Adze Ugah is the director of the film, with the production team made up of Mokopi Shale‚ Cati Weinek‚ Khetiwe Ngcobo and Dumi Gumbi.

According to Daily Dispatch sister publication the Sowetan, Mrs Right Guy is a result of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) Fund aimed at building a black South African film-going audience.

Ugah was reported as saying the foundation realised that unlike Afrikaans, American and Leon Schuster films, black productions failed at the box office.

Funds were made available for producers to pitch ideas and four years later Mrs Right Guy was born.

Other films that have done well coming from the scheme are Tell Me Sweet Something, Happiness is a Four Letter Word, Between Friends, Hear me Move and Hard to Get.
