Sindisiwe Manqele‚ the woman convicted of the murder of her rapper boyfriend‚ Nkululeko “Flabba” Habedi‚ has not taken responsibility for his murder.
Manqele‚ 26‚ was found guilty in December of murdering Habedi‚ 37‚ who was a member of hip-hop group Skwatta Kamp.
On Wednesday‚ the defence called to the witness stand Seipati Monyamane‚ a clinical psychologist who testified on Manqele’s behalf.
Under cross examination‚ prosecutor Paul Schutte asked Monyamane if Manqele had taken responsibility for Habedi’s death‚ and Monyamane answered that she had not.
“I wouldn’t say so. No‚” Monyamane said.
Sentencing proceedings in her case started on Wednesday exactly a year after Habedi’s death. Manqele stabbed him in the chest on March 9 last year in his home in Alexandra‚ Johannesburg.
Manqele pleaded not guilty to murder‚ saying she acted in self-defence during a fight between the couple.
Monyamane told the court that she had conducted three interviews with Manqele. Her conclusion was that Manqele did not suffer from any mental illness‚ but was an anxious person.
She found her to be remorseful for her actions because she was emotional.
Monyamane also told the court that Manqele was suffering from among others‚ shortness of breath‚ sleep disturbance‚ lack of appetite‚ irritability and feelings of sadness.
Another defence witness‚ Probation Officer‚ Medhurst Mapitsa said Manqele was a good candidate for a correctional supervision sentence because she had a fixed address and had no previous convictions.
The trial continues.
