Seven die in crash near Queenstown

SEVEN people were killed in an accident between Tarkastad and Queenstown at the weekend.

Two survivors are in a critical condition in hospital.

The accident happened on Saturday afternoon when a Toyota Avanza and Isuzu bakkie collided head-on about 10km from Queenstown.

Arrive Alive spokesman Tshepo Machaea said the Avanza had been driving from Queenstown and all s even deceased, including the driver, were in the Avanza.

The driver of the bakkie and a passenger from the Avanza were taken to Frontier Hospital in critical conditions.

It was still not clear what caused the accident .

The five women and two men who died have not yet been identified as the authorities are not sure where they were coming from .

“It does not look like there were any children involved,” said Machaea.

“W e appeal to people to contact police in Queenstown to identify missing loved ones.”

Today, officials from the provincial transport department and Arrive Alive will be in Queenstown to assist families who identify loved ones.

Machaea said no other tragic accidents were reported in the province over the weekend.

“We appeal to drivers to be vigilant and avoid speeding on public roads.

“Drivers must always drive according to the speed limit and avoid speeding in any road and public roads. They must adhere to speed limits at all times,” Machaea said. —
