Double dynamos for Idols

IDOLS season 9 is set to be on fire with Durban twin singing sensation Anele and Nelisiwe Mxakaza, 17, providing the ignition.

The twins, who said they have been singing since Grade 4 and auditioned to be in Joyous Celebration in 2010, said they were pleased they received good reviews from viewers.

During their performance one Idols judge, Unathi Msengana, shed tears and another, Gareth Cliff, was focused on their performance.

Between themselves they sang duet covers of Beyonce’s Listen, Etta James’ All I Could Do Was Cry and Adele’s Someone Like You.

“We were very happy with the reaction and it was clear that people loved us,” Anele said.

“We did expect this as people always give a positive reaction to our singing. We entered Idols in March to try our luck and we are glad we did.

“Unfortunately, at this point we can’t say how far we have gone in the competition. Viewers will have to tune in to find out.”

Nelisiwe said though they appeared on television, they have not been receiving special treatment from their peers – but their friends were excited for them.

“Our family has also been supportive, particularly our mom and two elder sisters – one a fashion designer and another sister is an electrical engineering intern,” Nelisiwe said.

The twins, who grew up in Umlazi, but now live in Ridgeview, Durban, want to study either law, dental therapy or even music, after matric.
