Dispatch deliveries run late following truck accident

A DAILY Dispatch delivery truck carrying papers from Port Elizabeth this morning was involved in an accident in Port Alfred that left the driver slightly injured.

This led to delays in delivery of the paper this morning to Dispatch circulation areas.

Ryan Megaw, Tiso Blackstar regional circulation manager, said the Port Elizabeth press last night had also experienced problems leading to delays in printing of the paper. “This morning’s Daily Dispatch deliveries were very late. The press experienced repeated problems, so the first truck only got away at 12.14am (this morning) instead of 8.30pm on Wednesday night,” said Megaw.

While on its way to East London to deliver the paper, the truck was involved in an accident in Port Alfred. The driver sustained head and leg injuries. “The driver, at this stage appears to not be too badly hurt, with head injuries and leg injuries. From what we can make out he rolled backwards down a steep hill and nearly slammed into a house,” said Megaw.

Another vehicle was dispatched to collect the papers and bring them through to East London. Megaw said deliveries were still taking place with some papers arriving in Queenstown at 8:10am and with trucks on their way to Mthatha.

“Subscriptions and retail deliveries are still taking place in East London, and surrounds. To save time we cut out the far flung country areas including these routes Port St. Johns - Bizana, Kokstad - Matatiele, and the North Eastern Cape,” said Megaw.
