DIGNITARIES attending former president Nelson Mandela's funeral started arriving at the East London and Mthatha airports on Saturday.
Labour minister Mildred Oliphant, water and environmental affairs minister Edna Molewa and Zuma's spokesman Zizi Kodwa landed at the Mthatha airport, where hundreds of people lined up anticipating the arrival of Mandela's body before 1pm.
Police maintained a heavy presence at the East London airport, constantly “sweeping” key areas with sniffer dogs. About six state emergency medical services were lined up in the East London airport parking lot and Frere Hospital chief executive Dr. Rolene Wagner was seen going through the restricted arrivals area.
Dozens of privately owned bus coaches were seen driving in and out of the East London airport with no passengers throughout the day.
