Explosive entertainment at Buyel’ekhaya festival

NOW that the mourning period is over, music lovers prepare to be blown away at this year’s taking place on Sunday at the Buffalo Park Stadium.

Là Peafa band member Ays Mabusela said the band was thrilled to be part of the festival.

“We are looking forward to it. When it was moved, we were wondering what is going to happen but we are very glad we’ll be performing this Sunday,” he said.

The band, which was formed in 2010, is made up of Mabusela, Spokazi Nolatsho and Thembani Gidi. Their music is a fusion of afro soul, pop and urban gospel.

Mabusela said since their formation, they had shared the stage with the likes of Benjamin Dube, Israel Houton (USA), Brian Temba, Loyiso Bala, Zahara, Teargas, Bala Brothers, Tkzee and many other artists.

“We do a lot of afro soul music, over the years we’ve been doing a lot of pop but we have fused it with a lot of soulful sounds.

“We will be doing covers and some of our new songs,” he said.

He said about 60% of the songs they would be doing were theirs while the rest would be covers.

“People can expect to hear our single Usibona sinje there and various other songs as well.”

Mabusela said they were working on their debut album, Soul Minded. Its release is expected some time next year.

The band will also be performing at the Buffalo City Metro carnival taking place on Friday.

Also returning to the Buyel’ekhaya Music Festival by popular demand is Ringo Madlingozi, who has made a name for himself as the top Xhosa R&B musician.

Madlingozi also said he could not wait to perform in East London again. He said people should expect to hear their favourite tunes when he performs this Sunday.

The Gugulethu-born artist said he was working on his upcoming album due to come out next year.

Other artists expected to perform include Ndingo Johwa, The Soil, DJ Zinhle, DJ Pastor, Oskido and Candy. Organiser of the show Hlubi Mazwai urged patrons to buy their tickets on time to avoid disappointment.

Mazwai said other local artists would also perform on the day. Tickets are R180 at Computicket. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
