We’re bringing our newsdesk to you

CAFÉ Newsroom, the new Daily Dispatch initiative designed to forge a closer relationship with readers, has received positive feedback from East Londoners so far.

The Dispatch will hold its first events at Café Bella at Beacon Bay Retail Park and The Deck in Gonubie on Saturday from 9am to noon.

After a report appeared on Tuesday announcing the initiative, reader Zweliyadinga Makinana expressed his excitement in an e-mail.

“I was so excited to read about Café Newsroom which Daily Dispatch has recently launched for local communities within Buffalo City Metro Municipality,” he wrote.

“This is an excellent idea (as) it intends to bring services closer to poor communities.”

Another reader, Michael Butcher, congratulated the paper on the idea.

“Coffee and newspapers make great bedfellows and it is culture that needs to be developed and embraced more in East London,” he wrote.

The Café Newsroom concept invites Dispatch readers to meet reporters from the paper’s Metro Desk to discuss issues affecting their communities.

Metro Desk editor Andrew Stone and reporter Shanaaz Prince will be based at Café Bella while chief reporter Mike Loewe and reporter Aretha Linden will be at The Deck.

Residents are invited to join the reporters and discuss issues affecting them and their communities.

We encourage all those interested in sharing their stories to join us this Saturday for a cup of coffee and have a say in the news you want to see in your paper. — shanaazp@dispatch.co.za
