Dirk Uys to let you choose direction of jokes

THE many faces of Pieter Dirk Uys will be revealed at the Guild Theatre this week on a rare visit to East London.

Uys, famous for his role as Evita Bezuidenhout, will be performing in support of the Gately Rotary Anns, who are on a drive to raise funds to build an early childhood development centre to cater for underprivileged children.

Rotary Anns president Micaela Beltrame said they were hoping for two full houses.

“We have already identified a plot to build the centre in Buffalo Flats, so we really need to meet this target,” Beltrame said.

“People who come to the show need to remember that they’re not there just to see Pieter but to support the building of the centre as all proceeds will go towards this.”

The audience members are in for a treat, Beltrame said, as they will have the opportunity to steer the show.

Fifteen numbered boxes will be placed on the stage with each box revealing a different story – either a drama, comedy or an exposé – along with different characters.

All this will be done using a host of truly South African jokes, with Uys taking on famous characters such as the late Nelson Mandela, Zimbabwean first lady Grace Mugabe, as well as Mother Theresa.

“We feel privileged that Pieter accepted to perform for our fundraising … provide education for children. A lack of education can lead to so many things, such as a life of crime,” Beltrame said.

Shows will be held at the Guild at 7.30pm tomorrow and Friday. Tickets cost R150 and are available at Computicket or at the theatre. — zisandan@dispatch.co.za
