Oscar Trial: Day 20

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel began to poke holes in Oscar Pistorius's version of the events that lead to him shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in the early hours of Valentine's Day last year.

Nel put it to the Paralympian that if - as Pistorius claims - a police photo of his bedroom taken in the early hours of that morning shows several things not in the position that he remembers them to have been in, then the police are guilty of a conspiracy against him.

Pistorius told the court that the duvet from his bed was never on the floor as shown in the photo; that the curtains were never opened as wide as they are shown; and that the fan in the photo could not have been in the position shown, as this would have obstructed him from going onto the balcony and shouting for help, as he claimed he did during his examination in chief.

Nel argued that this was not due to police tampering but rather claimed: "Mr Pistorius your version is so improbable that nobody would ever think it is reasonably possible."

Nel said that the state would argue that Pistorius and Steenkamp had an argument in the early hours of the morning, following which she ran screaming to the toilet and locked herself inside before the Blade Runner shot her.

Pistorius maintained that his version was the truth and that objects had been moved on the scene by police.

Nel's cross-examination of Pistorius continues tomorrow morning.
