Bumbane villagers follow Dalindyebo's lead

It was relatively quiet at Bumbane Great Place. Villagers said they heeded AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo's call to take their votes away from the ANC to the Democratic Alliance.

Wahiya Sonteya, 73, walked with the aid of crutches for a kilometre in scorching heat for a chance to cast his vote at the royal house.

“We are with the King.. sticking to his decision. He is the one who went all over campaigning for us.
He told us that he has changed from the old party to the DA.
This is our way of life, we listen to the king's decree, you cannot break that law,” he said.
However, it appears not all of Dalindyebo's subjects heeded his decree, with two ladies whispering to the Dispatch that their votes went to "the party of Nelson Mandela".
Before the elections, Nyandeni Local Municipality mayor Thokozile Sokhanyile was forced to make an unplanned visit after residents, mainly youths, went on a rampage burning tyres, shutting down schools and digging trenches in Ntibane village outside Ngqeleni, during a week-long protest in demand of electricity.
However yesterday voting went smoothly without any hiccups.
Ward 28 councillor Fudumele Gaxeni said the subsequent appointment of a steering committee for the electrification project recently.
"We also agreed to form a development programme to create jobs for youth," he said.
