Dutywa beauty all set for her crowning glory

A DUTYWA-born businesswoman and freelance writer is pursuing a lifelong dream to be a beauty queen.

Tamara Booi is one of 24 women in line for the Mrs SA crown, a pageant which highlights the role of married women in the country.

Booi, 30, said she wanted to inspire women who thought that tying the knot put a brake on them realising their dreams.

“I want to use the Mrs SA platform to reach couples beyond culture, race or creed. Even with the high documented divorce rate, I still believe in happy and healthy marriages,” she said.

The mother to a five-year-old boy and two-year-old girl already has a few beauty pageant titles under her belt, including Miss Queenstown High School and Miss Cape Technikon.

“I used to enter beauty pageants as a young girl and have always wanted to take part in the Miss South Africa pageant.

“I almost gave up on that dream after I got married and had children but then when I heard about Mrs SA I knew it was my chance,” she said.

Booi is well-suited for the pageant’s main purpose – for the past five years she has been running a Couple’s Retreat seminar where married couples gather to inspire and motivate one another to sustain happy and healthy marriages.

“Mrs SA pageant is all about real bona fide women. Women who are ambitious and successful. Be it in their professional lives or their important roles as wives and mothers.

“These are the women who can do it all and still look good,” said Booi.

In preparation for the pageant, she said the finalists were currently busy with media interviews, workshops photo/video shoots and fashion shows.

The Grand Finale will be held on August 8 at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg.
