Witness claims Krejcir tortured businessman

“DO YOU know me – why are you lying?… Maybe you want to die like a soldier?”

These were the chilling words alleged mafia “boss” Radovan Krejcir is said to have used to threaten an East Rand businessman while torturing him by pouring boiling water over his head, causing blisters to form on the side of his face.

The details of the alleged torture at Krejcir’s Money Point office in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, in June last year emerged yesterday in the High Court in Johannesburg, which is sitting in Palm Ridge.

Krejcir and his five co-accused, including Hawks warrant officers Samuel Maropeng, Jeff Nthoroane and Jan Mofokeng, as well as Desai Luphondo and taxi boss Siboniso Miya are facing charges of dealing in drugs, kidnapping and attempted murder.

They have pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The prosecution’s first witness, Peter Msimango, told the court how an East Rand businessman – blindfolded and with his hands bound behind his back – screamed in “excruciating pain” as Krejcir poured boiling water over him and repeatedly kicked him as he, together with his co-accused, questioned the man about the whereabouts of his brother, only known as “Doctor”.

The incident was alleged to have happened following a failed multi-million rand drug deal last year.

Msimango portrayed Krejcir as the commander-in-chief of the alleged kidnapping and torture operation.

He said when he met Krejcir the alleged mafia boss had told him that kidnapping “Doctor’s” brother would send a message that “we were not playing games”.

On Msimango’s version, Krejcir followed his acts of violence by ordering Miya to remove the victim’s blindfold and asked the young man: “Do you know me? Why are you lying when you were with your brother during the day? Maybe you want to die like a soldier, well then it’s fine.”

According to Msimango the kidnapping and torture followed “Doctor” disappearing with the 25 plastic bags of crystal meth (tik) bound for Australia and a R70000 down-payment.

Msimango’s testimony will continue today.
