Tickle your funny bone at the Theatre of Dreams

THE Guild Theatre tomorrow night plays host to an evening of Christian comedy, gospel and jazz music and traditional dance.

Simkhulu “Shuz” Sigobelwana, who has been involved in the gospel music industry for a number of years, has put together a three-hour programme to appeal to all ages.

He says: “There is this concept that the church and its ministry has to be serious.

“I don’t know where it comes from, certainly not from the Bible. One of my favourite quotes from the book of Genesis has Sarah saying: ‘God has made laughter for me’ – I love this.”

“I believe one should learn to laugh about certain situations in life and there certainly is lots happening within the church and in life that we should learn to laugh about together.”

“The comedy evening will feature a host of comedians putting a positive, Christian spin on everyday challenges,” Sigobelwana explained.

The four comedians on the night include Buffalo City Metro spokesman Keith Ngesi who has been doing the MC circuit for many years. “This is his first billing as a stand-up comedian at an organised venue,” says Sigobelwana. Siyabulela Makwetu, a King William’s Town teacher by day and well-known MC by night will also perform, as will Assemblies of God pastor Roja Molo.

Sigobelwana said to round out the evening there will also be jazz and gospel groups as well as a traditional dancer, Lhino Gcanga, performing. The music groups include Lusizo Kango, Phumza Sigobelwana, Bonnie S, T Batala as well as Nosiviwe Mabona and Monde Fani.

The show starts at 6.30pm and should finish at 9.30pm. Entry is R80 for adults and R40 for children. Tickets for the Amazing Laughs Comedy Show can be booked at Computicket or at Vutela Music Stand outside Steers in Oxford Street in East London. — DDR
