Mandla accuser under fire

Top legal team calls into question ‘inconsistencies’.

MVEZO chief Mandla Mandela hurled insults at an Mthatha teacher during an altercation in October last year before slapping him through the face, the Mthatha regional court heard yesterday.

“I put it to you that Mr Mandela tried to calm you down when you started swearing at him,” said Garvey.

Ngudle argued that in fact he had only started swearing at Mandela once his car keys had been taken away.

Garvey asked why it was not reflected in the police statement that Ngudle had been kicked as well.

He told Ngudle that his evidence was riddled with inconsistencies, adding: “I will ask the court to disregard your evidence as it is not consistent.”

Senior public prosecutor Jongikhaya Busakwe tried to object to some of the questioning from Garvey but Conjwa said the manner in which Ngudle answered begged more questions.

The matter continues today. —
