Black Coffee to wow EL audiences

THE king of South African house music will be in East London on Friday for one night only at Numbers Dance Club.

Black Coffee, aka Nkosinathi Maphumulo, has made a name for himself across the continent and beyond with his unique sound, and he recent

ly released a DVD and CD titled Africa Rising.

Event organiser Langa Tshiki, who owns 18 Girlz Entertainment, said by bringing nationally renowned DJs to East London, they were giving local party goers what they wanted.

Other DJs expected to play on the night include Ndira, Mbo, Ctera, Blomzit Avenue, Kusta and Skara.

“The problem with the East London party scene is that promoters are not giving people what they want,” said Tshiki.

“Back in the day we had a lot of people who were promoters for the fun of it and they didn’t know how to market their gigs.”

He said depending on social media for advertising gigs and relying solely on local talent wasn’t always enough to ensure a large crowd as many people were not willing to pay big amounts for entry to see local artists.

“It’s pointless. People would rather not come to that event.”

He said experience gained over the years from organising gigs had taught him what people wanted. “I know how to pull in a crowd and I focus mainly on national DJs.”
