Homegirls need your votes

THREE Eastern Cape women have made it into the top 24 of the Mrs South Africa beauty pageant.

The Mrs SA finalists are businesswomen, mothers and above all wives between the ages of 25 and 50. The winner will represent South Africa at the Mrs World, Mrs Universe and Mrs Globe pageants.

Mrs SA sees a group of women of all races, sizes and faiths coming together to empower others. Unlike Miss SA, Mrs SA finalists are not selected based on beauty, height or weight – finalists come in all shapes and sizes.

The Eastern Cape finalists are Faith Ndamase, Lindela Mzobe and Tamara Booi. They are all currently based in Johannesburg.

Later this month the 24 will head to Cape Town for a lifestyle challenge ahead of the grand finale on August 8.

Mzobe said she decided to enter the pageant because she wanted to break out of her routine. “I’ve been married for seven years and I wanted to do something different with my life,” she said.

The 32-year-old Bizana-born Mzobe said entering the competition had allowed her to break out of her shell. “When I started I wasn’t on social media but one of the requirements is for us to connect with people and I’ve since opened a Facebook account,” she said, adding that her husband had been supportive all the way.

Mzobe said she has had an opportunity to work with charities and make a difference in the community.

Ndamase, who originally hails from Mdantsane and is now a pharmacist, said she aspired to become the first Mrs SA health ambassador in the country. “I am passionate about health, and I want to be a health ambassador and to be able to have health conversations with people with different diseases,” she said.

Booi said she wanted to inspire other young married women to achieve their goals and not allow marriage to stop them from pursuing them. The Dutywa-born businesswoman has two titles under her belt, which include Miss Queenstown High School and Miss Cape Technikon. She said when she got married she thought she would have to stop competing in pageants until she came across Mrs SA.

The current Mrs SA is Chane de Kock, a health consultant, motivational speaker and mother of three. The grand finale on August 8 will be held at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg. On the day, finalists are expected to put on swimwear, but they can cover up if they want to and the winner won’t be selected based on it. People can vote for any of them by SMSing: “Faith Ndamase”, “Lindela Mzobe” or “Tamara Booi” to: 35959. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
