A NEW entertainment spot which aims to revive jazz will be launched in East London this weekend.
The two-day opening of the Velvet Jazz Lounge at Latimer’s Landing will also promote the annual Standard Bank Joy of Jazz – a national festival which takes place in Johannesburg later this year.
He said the Eastern Cape was known as the home of jazz but there was a lack of venues that catered for the art form.
“There is a huge market for jazz and what’s been lacking is a venue for artists to perform in and for patrons to come and enjoy great music in a place they can feel safe in,” he said.
Naidoo said they planned to have a live gig every weekend.
“A lot of local bands will benefit from this, as they will get a platform to showcase their talent,” he said.
The venue would host other events as well.
The two-day event is supported by The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz and Wild Coast FM.
