Lottery glitch resolved

THE National Lottery Operator Gidani has announced that the technical glitch that followed the live Lotto draw on Saturday night has been resolved.

Gidani spokesman Duduzile Ndendwa said this afternoon that the winning divisional payout information had been confirmed.

“We can also confirm that the guaranteed R25-million has been won and the winning ticket was purchased in the Western Cape,” Ndendwa said.

Ndendwa explained that the technical problem was the result of a burst water pipe in the Midrand area of Johannesburg. This lead to “flooding the Telkom lines that connect Gidani’s central system to the retail network, which then affected the replication of transactions between the two systems, thus affecting the verification of the number of wagers”.

“This made it impossible to determine the dividend payouts,” she said.

At the weekend, Ndendwa issued apologies to customers affected by the glitch: “The management of Gidani regrets all inconvenience suffered by its customers and other stakeholders due to this inopportune glitch.”

This afternoon, she thanked players. “We wish to thank our players for their patience and understanding … and extend our appreciation to our suppliers who worked tirelessly to resolve the problem,” she said.

Ndendwa also confirmed that the Wednesday Lotto draw will go ahead as scheduled and the jackpot will be an estimated R2-million since Saturday’s guaranteed jackpot was won.
