THE Mbeki and Moerane families today thanked everyone for their support following Epainette Mbeki’s death.

“In particular, we would like to thank the Eastern Cape provincial government, the national government, and the Dutywa community for their strong support,” Moeletsi Mbeki said in a statement.

“We also wish to thank all those within and outside our borders who conveyed messages of support and those that sacrificed time off their schedules to be with us when we interred our mother’s remains last Saturday.”

Epainette Mbeki (née Moerane), the mother of former president Thabo Mbeki, died in the Life St Dominic’s Hospital in East London, Eastern Cape on June 8 aged 98. Her official provincial funeral was in Dutywa on Saturday.

Moeletsi Mbeki, Epainette Mbeki’s other son, said the fam ilies’ lives would begin a new chapter without their mother and grandmother, but would continue to be inspired by her.

“Her lifelong commitment to improving the lives of our people will continue to guide and inspire us in everything we do,” he said. — Sapa
