Queenstown’s Xavier makes it into top 25 in Mr SA title quest

QUEENSTOWN hunk Xavier Mgidlana has muscled his way into the top 25 of Mr SA.. Unlike the Miss SA pageant, Mr SA is not owned by Sun International but is a private entity.

Mr SA gives competitors challenges to test their leadership, planning and management skills, innovative thinking and creative probleM-solving capabilities.

The competition started with 100 contestants. The 25-year-old Mgidlana is a professional model and is the current holder of the Top Model SA 2014 title.

The former Queen’s College pupil said he wanted to be the voice that represented all men across the country and to help uplift the Mr SA brand.

“I also want to give motivation to those who have lost hope and to bring back good morality,” he said.

The process takes up to 10 months, during which contestants go through the various tasks.

To make it to the top 50, contestants had to raise funds for a charity. An amount of R282 000 was raised by a total of 34 contestants.

Mr SA’s Rudi Baker said the men also participated in the Bring Back Our Girls campaign.

“They’ve held educational talks at various schools around the country, collected blankets for the underprivileged, created and raised funds for the organisations through online advertising opportunities.

“They further went on to drive awareness, publicity and public support for themselves.”

Baker said after each task or project was completed, every contestant was scored according to their output.

Their scores were then added up and combined with the support each contestant received through their individual SMS voting lines.

“As we move closer to announcing our title winner for 2014, it becomes increasingly difficult to choose who goes through to the next round, as the competition is a fiercely contested one,” said Baker.

“Each of our top 50 have brought something to the competition this year, but the top 25 have taken it one step further, which has set them apart from the rest of the pack.”

The final of Mr South Africa is to be broadcast on e.tv in December.

The reality show will consist of 13 episodes in which the semi-finalists will be given challenges to overcome. Each week one contestant will be eliminated at the end of the episode.

In the next couple of weeks the top 25 will be getting tasks and in the end only 12 will make it to the final.

To vote for Mgidlana, SMS “MRSA 127” to 474389. Messages cost R3. —
