Mpisanes to launch new soccer club

Flamboyant Durban businesswoman Shauwn Mpisane and her husband S'bu, who have made headlines for their legal battles with the SA Revenue Service, will officially launch their football club Royal Eagles this weekend.

The official launch of the club is set to take place at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium and according to the invite sent to the media S'bu is chairman of the club.

The head coach is Duncan Lechesa and the team manager is Richard Makhoba.

The Mpisanes bought the Sivutsa Stars club, which was based in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

It was not known how much they paid for the club, but according to the Soccer-Laduma website the deal had already been made in April.

The club would play in the national first division with its first match kicking off on August 22, against Baroko FC at Durban's Chatsworth Stadium, according to the Premier Soccer League fixture list.

Shauwn Mpisane and her company, Zikhulise Cleaning, Maintenance, and Transport, made headlines in 2012 when she was accused by the SA Revenue Service of inflating suppliers' invoices by R4.7 million in an attempt to cut her tax bill.

A charge of interfering with a witness was withdrawn against her in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court. She had allegedly tried to interfere with one of the witnesses in relation to the fraud trial in the Durban Regional Court.

She and her company were acquitted of all those charges in January this year.

Prior to that, the State also withdrew 53 charges of fraud, forgery, and uttering of a forged document in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court.

Zikhulise's main business has been primarily the construction of low-cost housing for the eThekwini metro municipality.

S'bu Mpisane, a former constable with the eThekwini metro police, was never charged in these matters, but his extravagant lifestyle while a police officer attracted the attention of media and subsequently investigators.
