Dispatch team looking forward to sharing a cup with you

THE Daily Dispatch Café Newsroom is back and editor Bongani Siqoko and reporters are keen to share a cup of coffee with readers and listen to any community concerns you may have.

Café Newsrooms will be held at eight coffee shops across the city on Saturday morning and readers are invited to meet newsroom staff and chat about possible story ideas – be they good or bad news.

Last year our interaction with readers resulted in several published pieces, proving that roving newsrooms are a successful method of news-gathering.

Complaints ranged from a smelly, shabby bus stop on Croydon Road, Cambridge which attracted vagrants due to its rundown state, to suggestions from an eco-activist couple that the bushy area behind the Gonubie Main Beach be declared a nature reserve, similar to the Nahoon Point Nature Reserve.

A common thread raised by readers from the last Café Newsroom sessions was concern over the state of roads in the city, crime and the unresponsiveness of Buffalo City Metro.

Sessions were held in Vincent and Mdantsane where residents from the latter suburb complained of an increasing rate of crime in the area, including robberies and cases of rape. Others complained about the state of the roads, which were laced with potholes.

At Vincent Park, residents also raised concerns over the bad state of the roads in Southernwood, while others complained of bad roads around the Oriental Plaza and in Braelyn.

Some also complained of the untidy state of municipal grounds because of uncut grass as well as slack municipal workers.

Ideas similar to these and any other topics you would like us to consider writing about can be discussed at the following coffee shops on Saturday morning between 9am and noon.
