Asset Forfeiture Unit seize O R Tambo employee's property

THE Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) have raided the East London home of Nyameka Qongqo’s sister, Thumeka, and seized property valued at R80 000.

Qongqo, who is employed as a finance directorate staff in the O R Tambo District Municipality, was recently suspended after her colleagues discovered that she allegedly stole R2.5-million from the municipality’s coffers.

An investigation by the AFU and members of the commercial crimes unit has since established that Qongqo took that money and deposited it in her sister Thumeka’s bank account.

The NPA alleges that Thumeka then used a portion of those funds to buy furniture, among other things.

The items were confiscated from Thumeka’s plush double-storey house in River Reed Estate, Gonubie.
