Dispatch journos win two prizes

DAILY Dispatch won two awards at last night’s Vodacom journalist of the year regional finals in Port Elizabeth.

Senior journalist Bongani Fuzile and deputy political editor Mphumzi Zuzile won the print general news category for their investigation into the Mandela funeral fund scandal.

Presenting the awards on behalf of the panel of judges, Ryland Fisher said: “The best investigative journalism makes a difference, when the reporting leads to officials having to account for their actions.

The editor-in-chief of Dispatch titles, Bongani Siqoko, congratulated the winners, saying they had worked hard on their projects.

“We are proud of each and every one of them. I would also like to congratulate every person who worked on these stories, from news editors to copy editors, page subs who worked on the presentation and our photographers, who took sunning images.

“It was really a team effort,” he said.

The regional winners each take home R5000 and qualify to travel to Johannesburg for the national finals on October 31. — DDR
