BCM assists ‘homeless’ councillor

FROM owning a small wooden house in Ilitha, Buffalo City Metro councillor Gideon Norexe now has a new home in Beacon Bay after his was torched about two weeks ago.

Norexe and his wife moved to his temporary home over the weekend after they were left homeless on September 11 in a suspected arson attack.

“They are led by a certain group of people who are interested in the position of ward councillor.”

No arrests have been made yet in connection to the opened arson case.

BCM mayor Zukiswa Ncitha confirmed there were plans to find a new home for Norexe after his home was torched.

“I am not yet aware if he has received the house because that is too much administrative work.

“There is a policy that allows us to provide or fix valuables of the councillors if they have been damaged,” Ncitha said, adding that security for Norexe would be considered if he was found to be at risk.

The councillor is facing an investigation after he allegedly breached the code of conduct of councillors.

Some of the allegations levelled against him include that he asked for sexual favours from female residents in return for jobs.

However, he denied the claims and said he was waiting to be cleared of the “tactics” designed to bring him down. —mamelag@dispatch.co.za
