Brian Ndevu to co-host radio show

After a brief hiatus from the limelight, East London-born Brian Ndevu has joined TruFM on the station’s lunchtime show The Real, which he co-hosts with AJ Blie.

Ndevu, who has extensive experience in the broadcasting industry, will be remembered for his stint on SABC1 and 3 as a continuity presenter.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch yesterday, Ndevu said that after he left the SABC he went into corporate communication and was also part of the team that started Hype Magazine in 2004.

He has also worked as a publicist for SABC3 – handling international programmes and sports and later joined the Special Assignment team doing scripts and voice- overs. “I have been involved a lot in public relations and advertising but broadcasting has always been a passion.

I actually cut my teeth in broadcasting working for the then CKI FM during school holidays as a teenager,” he said.

Ndevu said joining TruFM was a natural progression as it was something he wanted and worked on achieving.

“In fact I started planning my move back to EL about two years ago and that is when I decided to drop my demo off at the station, they liked it and now we are here.”

He said his show is a lifestyle show which tackles everyday issues and current affairs.

“We have a broad spectrum of topics that we discuss, from service delivery to HIV/Aids and entertainment news, and my contribution is providing a more mature outlook on these issues as well as attracting the older audience.”

Ndevu said he is also currently on the commentary team for the Premier Boxing League, which was launched in 2013 and continues working as a PR consultant.

“The reception has been nothing but positivity and motivation. From my colleagues who have made this a comfortable ride and to the audience who have shown nothing but love,” Ndevu said.

He said given the age gap between him and his co-host, things have been seamless in their partnership.

“We are so cool, AJ and I, there is absolutely no beef. We laugh a lot and tease each other and we complement each other. She is the anchor of the show and I am just the co-host, and I haven’t confused that role.”
