Police open case after foetus found in bag

East London police have opened an inquest docket after a foetus was dumped near Gonubie High School yesterday afternoon.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Mtati Tana confirmed this, saying no one has been arrested.

“The police rushed to the scene after a phone call about the gruesome find and they found what appeared to be a foetus in a plastic bag yesterday afternoon. Police are busy investigating this and no one has been arrested,” said Tana.

A resident of Mzamomhle Township who saw when the incident happened said a group of kids who were walking with her to the township saw a white woman dumping the bag near the high school and rushed to look what was contained in it.

“As you know kids are always curious, they rushed after that plastic and were shocked to see a dead baby inside the plastic. It was a white child and maybe a day or two old,” said the woman.

She said people crowded over the plastic until police arrived.

Tana could not confirm the race of the child. — bonganif@dispatch.co.za
