A new art gallery that prides itself in “evocative one-of-a-kind art” is opening with an exhibition of ceramics.
The title of the exhibition at Gallery Art Versatile in Vincent Park shopping centre is the Journey 1: Defining Ceramics by its director, Litha Ncokazi.
Ncokazi, who is a fine art lecturer at Walter Sisulu University, has 20 ceramic pieces on exhibit which range from R150 to R7500.
“Journey 1 tells my personal story about how I managed to achieve my dreams,” he said.
“I have always planned to create a space for my brand in a place with an influx of people … so the mall and timing was very strategic,” he said.
Ncokazi, who recently featured on 100% Youth on SABC1, said the exhibition was another journey in it’s own as he showcased the many forms ceramic art could take.
Ncokazi said Gallery Art Versatile’s opening last week triggered a “phenomenal” influx of holiday makers and members of the public.
“People that recognised me on SABC1 recently were excited to see my work and the gallery has been welcomed warmly,” he said.
The artist said there was potential to feature works of his established alumni students in the future. — mbalit@dispatch.co.za
