Born- free gets ANC T-shirt from Makupula

Eastern Cape Education MEC Mandla Makupula, standing about 25 metres away from the Gonubie Main Road voting station, handed born-free Selborne College pupil Rogan Oelofse, 18, a bright yellow ANC T-shirt.

When Oelofse told the Daily Dispatch: "You can fire the coach but not the team: I am not a fan of JZ", Makupula said: "Those are profound words."

While the ANC table which Makupula, wearing a pale pink shirt, was manning, had a pile of ANC electioneering tees, as well as pamphlets and posters stating "Step up for your hustle", the DA's table a few metres away was a bare, but for a blue table cloth and a counting sheet.

DA members said: "We don't allow it (distribution of election material) but you can go to our office and get a Tee."

Makupula was in fine electioneering form, telling the Dispatch that while the party had "many challenges", but that he had "excercised my right (in voting) to accelerate change and progress. The ANC says give us a chance to continue to changing the lives of ordinary people."

"So many people have come to ask for Tees. This (election) is not about colour. It is about saying you have done the right thing for Mandela." --
