E Cape schools compete to prove their theatrical skills

ASPIRING playwrights and actors from 11 Eastern Cape schools are about to compete for a slot in a prestigious annual drama festival.

From tomorrow the schools will compete in knockout stages to land one of three places in the final of the FNB Alexander Playhouse drama

festival.

The prestigious festival started in 2010 and provides high schools with the opportunity to win prizes for both the school and pupils. Deon Opperman – multi-award-winning  South African playwright, director, actor, producer and patron of the festival – is challenging directors and pupils to dramatise a published short story and present it as a 30-minute play.
