The Proteas touched down in East London yesterday ahead of the third one-day international (ODI) against the West Indies at Buffalo Park tomorrow.

Excitement is high ahead of the game, after the team broke a number of records when they thumped the Windies by 148 runs at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday.

The Proteas will be looking to wrap up the five-match series after going 2-0 up, and will want to continue their good form with the Cricket World Cup in New Zealand and Australia just a couple of weeks away.

Only a handful of people were at the airport to welcome the national team. The players headed straight for the bus, with a few slowing up to pose for pictures.

When the fans spotted captain AB De Villiers, they broke into spontaneous applause.

De Villiers on Sunday set two ODI batting world records when he scored the fastest 50 off 16 balls, before reaching his century off only 31 deliveries, during a mind-blowing innings of 149 runs off a paltry 44 deliveries.

Speaking to the media last week he said: “I think the key for us is to gel as a unit leading up to the World Cup.

“This is the last opportunity to build up some winning confidence and momentum before the World Cup so it is an important series for us.”

After arriving in the city yesterday, many of the players decided to take it easy, heading to the East London golf course or just relaxing ahead of their practice session scheduled for this morning.

The Proteas team will be brimming with confidence, however one stumbling block in their quest for victory could be the West Indies master blaster, Chris Gayle.

Gayle is no stranger to Buffalo Park and will have fond memories of having played here just over two months ago, when he ran out for the Lions against the Warriors in the Ram Slam T20 competition. Gayle was in unstoppable form, as he plundered his way to an unbeaten 108 off 55 balls to help lead his side to a 10-wicket win.

With Buffalo Park not having hosted an international cricket match since 2012, the ground is expected to be packed to the rafters, with the possibility of some fireworks by Gayle and De Villiers.

Tickets are available from Buffalo Park ticket office, www.ticketpros.co.za and selected Postnet branches. Tickets will not be available at the ground on match day, however if there are still tickets, they will be available to purchase from the Kennaway Hotel.

Any uncollected tickets can also be claimed at the venue. The match gets under way at 1.30pm.
