An East London pupil died and several others were injured in a minibus accident on their way to school this morning.The accident happened on the N2 as the pupils were travelling from Mdantsane to Gonubie High school.
The school’s principal, Grethe Botha, said although they were not informed of the death yet, but the accident had saddened them and the fellow pupils.
“The department of education is assisting us to help other pupils who were left traumatised by this accident,” said Botha.
Provincial traffic spokesman Tshepo Machaea confirmed the accident, saying a case of culpable homicide was being investigated.
“One pupil died and a number of them had to be rushed to different hospitals around East London. At this stage we are not sure about their situation,” said Machaea.
Machaea said there was no other vehicle involved in the accident.
“The driver apparently lost control of the minibus and it veered and landed on its side. He was also injured.”
