Bethusile Mcinga of Zundithwale fame stole the limelight at his mother’s album launch concert in Mthatha at the weekend.

But leader and founder of Lusanda Spiritual Group, Lusanda Mcinga, while surprised at her son’s rise to fame, was thrilled.

Bethusile was among the artists who were featured at Lusanda’s album launch at the OR Tambo Hall on Saturday night.

When Bethusile took to stage, the crowd went berserk, singing along and dancing to all his songs.

Other artists featured, included Sfiso Ncwane, who was made popular by his song Kulungile, Lundi Tyamara, Dumi Mkokstad, Sgwili, Khanyisa Sabuka, the Vuthelas, and Abanqobi.

Speaking to the Dispatch after the show, Lusanda said: “As his mother I am very proud of his achievements. I guess this is his moment to shine, and I’m grateful to God for everything that is happening in his life.”

Bethusile said there was no competition between him and his mother. “When I am on stage I do not see myself as the son of Lusanda, but as an artist in my own right whose mission is to serve God's people.”

Bethusile started his music career as one of the tenors in the group. In 2008, he released his solo album titled Mandibe ngoWakho. His latest album, Kuphelele , won the South African Crown Gospel Music song of the year award.

He is among the South African artists who will share the stage with international star Bebe Winans in East London on April 6.

Lusanda thanked her “loyal fans” for their support since she started singing more than 20 years ago.

The group will tour the country promoting their new album.
