Maimane to announce leadership race decision this weekend

Democratic Alliance (DA) parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane said he will make an announcement on whether or not he will compete for the party’s leadership position in the next 48 hours.

He is yet to make public his decision after party leader Helen Zille on Sunday announced she will not be contesting the party’s upcoming elections.

Maimane was responding to questions at a media briefing at Osner Hotel in East London on Friday.

He is visiting the city with other provincial DA leaders as the opposition party prepares for the 2016 local government elections.

Maimane met residents of the Orange Grove informal settlement‚ which is the backyard of suspended provincial Economic Freedom Fighters leader Themba Wele‚ who complained of housing problems.
