Democratic  Alliance parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane was this afternoon announced the party's new leader. Eastern Cape's DA leader Athol Trollip who is also mayoral candidate for the Nelson Mandela Bay, was elected the party's federal chairman.

Maimane said the DA was going to work hard to fight what he described as DA's “real enemies”  which he said are unemployment, poverty and inequality.

He said it was very significant for party the to have a Congress in Port Elizabeth because the Metro is named after Nelson Mandela, an icon. “We want to make sure that we become a government here and strategically set our objectives to governing more Metros in Gauteng,” he said.
