EC appoints legislature secretary

After months without a permanent administration head, the Bhisho Legislature appointed Vuyani Mapolisa as legislature secretary with effect from yesterday.

Mapolisa, who had been acting in the position since February after Phumelele Ndamase’s contract was not renewed last December, was previously the institution’s chief operations officer, a position which is now vacant.

His appointment was confirmed yesterday by legislature spokeswoman Bulelwa Ganyaza who said the new administration boss would occupy his new office after he signed a

five-year contract with the institution.

Ganyaza said the institution was pleased to finally have appointed a permanent accounting officer who brought with him “a wealth of experience” to the institution.

The new administration boss had previously worked for the institution between 2001 and 2007.

After leaving Bhisho Legislature for Cape Town in 2007, Mapolisa rejoined the institution in October 2013 as chief operations officer, with his responsibilities including managing human resources, information technology services and security services.

The legislature’s political head, speaker Noxolo Kiviet, yesterday said the institution was “confident” that Mapolisa’s appointment would take it new heights.

“As the legislature we are excited to finally have a permanent accounting officer. We wish him well in this new challenging job.”

Mapolisa said he was humbled by the confidence shown in him.

“My challenge now going forward will be to provide strategic support to the institution in order to enhance the oversight function in line with the provincial and National Development Plan,” Mapolisa said.

Labour union Nehawu’s chairman at the institution Madoda Nkwali also welcomed the appointment.

Meanwhile the search for provincial treasury’s administration head is on after the department last week advertised the post left vacant by Marion Mbina-Mthembu who was appointed provincial director-general last month. — asandan@dispatch.co.za
