Technical faults and cold weather blamed for new round of power cuts

Eskom has implemented Stage 2 load shedding again today‚ saying this is due in part to technical faults at some of its units.

Over the past three days‚ Eskom said‚ it has had to implement load shedding mainly due a sharp increase in electricity demand in the evenings.

"As we are currently experiencing cold weather conditions across the country‚ we urge electricity users to consider energy efficient ways of keeping warm‚" the electricity provider said in a statement.

It added: "If everyone were to switch off energy intensive appliances such as geysers and pool pumps from 5pm-9pm‚ this could help avoid load shedding".
