Officials take on ANC chief whip

Two Bhisho legislature officials with degrees have demanded to know from ANC and legislature chief whip, Mzoleli Mrara, why they were overlooked for a post filled by a candidate who allegedly does not have a valid matric certificate.

Nozikhungo Stofile and Noluthando Sipuka, who work for the ANC caucus at the legislature, yesterday both confirmed laying the complaint, but declined to talk saying the matter was being dealt with internally.

The Dispatch understands the Hawks visited the  ANC  offices in the legislature last Friday.

However,  Hawks national  spokesman Hangwani Mulaudzi could not  confirm this yesterday, as investigators were still “in a meeting”.

Sipuka’s letter of complaint seen by Saturday Dispatch, states: “It is my belief that a number of misrepresentations have been done by one of the candidates in terms of their qualifications”.

“It would therefore be prudent for me to know where I have failed in this endeavour,” wrote Sipuka.

Their complaints stem from the appointment of Noluthando Mathetha-Mosiane as one of three new researchers at the ANC offices in the Bhisho legislature, despite her not possessing the minimum requirement of a degree or diploma to hold the post.

Stofile has a four-year degree in public administration from the University of Fort Hare (UFH) and is currently working towards a masters degree.

Sipuka also has a public administration degree and is currently studying for an honours degree at UFH.

They are demanding to know why Mathetha-Mosiane,  who allegedly does not possess a legitimate matric certificate, was appointed ahead of them.

Saturday Dispatch has seen a document from education certification authority, Umalusi, which confirms that Mathetha-Mosiane does not have a valid matric certificate.

The Umalusi document states that the certificate Mathetha-Mosiane submitted with her application, “was not authentic and is invalid”.

Mathetha-Mosiane could not be reached yesterday.

The researcher post where Mathetha-Mosiane was appointed and supposed to start work on June 1, is one of three researcher posts recently filled by the ANC whippery.

The Dispatch last week reported that one of the posts was given to a woman with  romantic links to Mrara and who has a child with him.

The SACP, of which Mrara is provincial chairman, has asked that her appointment be reversed, as it was “unethical” and “against communist revolutionary morality”.

Mrara last week confirmed to Saturday Dispatch that Mathetha-Mosiane’s appointment had been put on ice due to complaints laid by the two.

He said he had to establish an appeals committee to look into the merits of the complaints.

ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane confirmed receiving a report from Mrara on the appointment of three researchers.

Mabuyane said they also received a report that one of the appointments had been challenged as there were allegations of fraud.

“We have assigned the chief whip to refer the case to the relevant authorities,” said Mabuyane.
