More load shedding likely on Monday

Load shedding is likely later on Monday as Eskom continues to experience generation capacity.

The power utility took to Twitter to announce that “today’s prognosis for #load–shedding is low for the morning and high for the evening”.

This followed a weekend marked by outages‚ which included escalating power-saving measures to stage 3 outages on Saturday‚ which indicated that there was a shortage of up to 3000MW.

Eskom stopped stage 1 load shedding at 21.19pm on Sunday.

The power outlook for the rest of the week is hard to gauge as Eskom last month discontinued its bi-weekly system status bulletin‚ which contained information on the predicted peak electricity demand and supply.

“In order to ensure that we keep the media and our stakeholders informed of the status of the power system‚ we have been issuing general power alerts on a regular basis‚” says a notice of Eskom’s website.
